Things to do while you're sick

Sleep. Eat in bed. Hope the kids don't tear up the house. Sleep some more. Make a digi scrapbook page. Sleep.

Weekend quick post

Sensapolis was awesome! I totally recommend it as a party place (2nd to the Pottery Bar of course). We had a personal assistant and everything! Two girls slept over and they all had a blast.

We went downtown today for the grand opening of our friend's new Ed Hardy store. They had Mark Terenzi (Sara Conner's husband) on hand to sing a few songs and open the store.

Then we got to buy Haven her first Swatch. I think this was more exciting for Rob and I than for Haven! :) And of course we couldn't leave without eating sushi. Yummy!

Pictures tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Haven!!!

We're celebrating her birthday tomorrow afternoon at Sensapolis. We're going to be a bit busy this weekend, so I'll get pictures up as soon as I can.

London Baby!

These are some pictures I've wanted to scrap but couldn't find a layout I liked. This one's from a "Simple Scrapbooks" magazine. They used felt accents. I was determined to figure out how to make a felt texture and I succeeded! You probably can't really tell in the little picture, but it looks really cool on my computer! :)

Good flicks, good fun

Watched two good movies this weekend, totally opposite ends of the spectrum as far as genre goes, but both really exciting!

First "Speed Racer." Ok, if you don't like this you'll join the ranks of all the critics who also didn't like it, but you'll be a total sellout. This movie rocks!!! It's totally like the cartoon and I loved every minute of it. It's like a mix of Looney Toons, Dick Tracey, and Gone in 60 seconds. I REALLY hope they make a sequel!

The next one was "Second Hand Lions." This is a really really good movie, but if you don't get it you may not be old enough for it. Dad, you HAVE to watch this movie!!! You'll really like it. It's about two old men living in Texas who are rumored to be millionaires. All their relatives come around trying to win their favor and salesmen come trying to sell them stuff all the time. Their favorite pastime is shooting at salesmen from their front porch. Their great-nephew comes to live with them for the summer. I'm not going to tell any more, but it's really funny and really really good. The whole point is about trust and what's worth believing in.

Let me know if you watch them! I want to hear what you think!

So many words...

There are so many things to say about Haven... She's is such a remarkable child. I was inspired to do this page from an awesome tutorial in the new Digital Scrapbooking magazine.
I really do need the full version of photoshop....

Pottery Party

Today I did my first on-site pottery party. Our youth group had 13 girls paint a plate and mug each. It was SO much fun! I forgot my camera to take pictures though... bummer. It was really fun to see these girls be uber creative.

Since I don't have pics from the pottery party, here's a new scrapbook page.

For Jennifer

I sorta caught him on camera doing the mouth and nose trick. He's fast when he sees the camera come out! It's funny anyway! But no one tease him!!! :)

Just because it's funny!

I scraplifted this layout from this girl. Hers is cuter, but I didn't have a picture that cute of my kids that fit this layout. That's ok, because I really like this picture of Ethan eating his foot! :)

Exhausting Day!!!

So the whole crew was out today to host our celebration party for winning Best Arts and Crafts in the Army! We started with a free cook-out, a HUGE sale in the store, demonstrations, and giveaways. It was so much fun, and we did THE LARGEST sales day in the HISTORY of the store!!! Woo hoo!!!! Adrienne is still there teaching pottery! It was an amazing day! We just love any excuse to have a party. We gave away almost 500 burgers and 200 hotdogs! It was so cool! Maybe Corinnea will post some picks of the "outtakes" from setting up for the party...

Now the youth group is at my house for Indiana Jones movie night. Oh, how I love Indy!!! It's been fun. Rob got all the supplies so the kids could make their own Doener kabobs and they were yummy! It was also one girl's birthday so we got yummy cake for desert.

So... exhausting, but fun day!

Ike Update

Ok, so my family seems to be in the clear for now. Ike is moving to the right and changing its path. Yeah! Still bad for people in its path... Thanks everyone for your continued prayers for this region. Hopefully it will just dissipate when it hits land...

Hurricane Ike

Please pray for the people about to be affected by Hurricane Ike. Both my husband and I have a BUNCH of family in the coastal areas of Texas (we're basically all beach bums at heart...) and I'm really pretty stressed over my brother and sister-in-law. A lot of people are evacuating, but he can't yet because of his job. Grr... Other people are staying put for other reasons. Just please keep them in your thoughts. Thanks!

Ugh. What a day! We’re switching over our photo studio from a Craft Shop to a contracted photo studio. So this morning was spent helping Uka clean out stuff and rearrange so the movers can take out all the furniture that’s garbage. That wasn’t so bad… Uka had done almost all of the work already. Then I had to pick up Ethan after school because I’m without a babysitter for two days a week. That’s ok, because he’s been going to work with me and I really like it.

After picking him up my car decided to die. So I spent the next portion of my afternoon at the BMW dealership waiting to talk to the mechanic. Then the walk to base with Ethan. Followed by a mad dash to the bank to deposit some money. Then the phone call that I had forgotten today was the deadline for a major report. Grrr…. The report was mostly finished, so 30 minutes to polish it off and it was on its way. Then groceries… laundry… dishes… trash… kids to bed… blech. Oh wait… tucking the kids in is a good part!!! LOL! OH but NOT because they're going to bed! Because I get to spend time with them!

Ok, so I say all that to say… this page was a really fun way to end the day!!!

Oh, and PS, I know no one cares about my boring day and every day is pretty much just like this one, and why did I bother to write it out.... Well, it's therapeutic. That's why! LOL!

Kelly's Korner gets a face lift!

Do you like the new blog layout? Hehe! It makes me giddy! I realized that creating blog headers and stuff was just like digital scrapbooking... just a different size! So this was my artistic fun for the evening. :)

New Pages

Haven, 2004

I'm really proud of these two pages. I did a bunch of techniques on them. The layout is scraplifted from a layout a bunch of people have on the forum. But I made it myself instead of spending the $4 to download it. I learned how to make the stitching look wonky and more "realistic." It's so funny... in paper scrapbooking you would want to make your stitching straight and make your pictures lay down flat. But in digital scrapbooking you want things to NOT be perfect so they look more real!

I made the drop shadows on those photos to make them look like the corners are raised. Again, figured it out myself so I didn't have to pay the $3 to download one. Also figured out the EASY way to recolor elements tonight! Oh man! I was doing it the hard way, messing with the hue/saturation. Turns out you can just push a button and "recolor" any color you want! Yay!!! Also proud of those little chalk swirls. They started out black and I made them look like chalk.

These were just really fun to work on. I actually spent two evenings working on them! Jess asked if we had pictures that just made us happy to look at them... I have scrapbooking pages that just make me happy. These are on the list! :)

Why you shouldn't blog when you're angry...

Is every day going to be like this????!!!!!???? Haven JUST finished her homework. It's 10:30 pm!!! So it went down like this:
2:30 Haven's out of school
Sits down in my office to do homework.
Needs help on everything.
6:00 leave work. Had to stay late because we're doing end of month paperwork.
Trip to grocery store because we're out of everything.
7:00 home. Cook dinner for the starving masses living in my house. Haven working on homework.
8:30 Ethan to bed, finally some peace.
9:00 Rob home, tag team homework help.
10:30 finally finished.
Absolutely ridiculous. Plus I had to help her spell every word because the English language is so hideous! At one point we both shouted how stupid English is and I told Haven we should go back to German school! ARGH!

I suppose all of you who have been in the American system with your kids all this time probably are laughing at my anguish. But I have been spoiled for the last six years with German school! Out at 12:30, after school care till 3:00, NO homework in the afternoons because it's all done in the after school program! But even still, she's never had THIS much homework! If she went to SAS after school she'd spend the whole three hours doing nothing but homework!

Ok, I think I've ranted enough to cool off. If tomorrow is like this again I'm going to have a tantrum and be one of "those" parents...

Europa Park

We took the youth group to Europa Park on Saturday and had a fun day. Haven spent the morning hanging out with the teens and it was just me, Rob, and Ethan. Then Haven joined us in the afternoon when the teens had had enough Haven! :) It was neat going there with Ethan because the last time we were there Haven was four! (or maybe five/six-ish...) Anyway, it was fun seeing Ethan enjoy the rides that Haven rode years ago! And it was fun to see Haven enjoying the "big kid" rides! She said if she rode anymore roller coasters she would need an inhaler! Haha!
